Mafu grew up as an addict of white noise. In 2003 During a bought of depression induced by long hours at work and poor living conditions, he became inspired by the noise around him. Taking solace during his time in the shower and the gentle sounds that accompanied it, he decided to sample his shower's sounds, transformed it into a beat, and played keyboards on top of it. For this track on Death By Salt IV, Mafu collaborated with fellow noise musician and close friend Nolens Volens. Mafu says, "I really admire very much that [Nolens Volens} treats sound and noise very honestly, as a therapeutic tool instead of trying to be an aloof artist." Mafu now resides in Japan, but is still infatuated with white noise—he sleeps listening to it every night.
